Transformasi Tata Kelola Dayah dari Kepemimpinan Karismatik Menuju Manajemen Institusional

Abstract

The institutional development of dayah has created a growing need for more structured governance without eliminating charismatic leadership, which has long served as a major force in preserving institutional values, traditions, and continuity. This study aims to analyze the transformation of dayah governance from a pattern centered on charismatic leadership toward a more organized management system and to identify the relationship between leadership authority and managerial functions. The study employs a library research method by examining books, journal articles, previous studies, and other scholarly sources relevant to charismatic leadership, dayah governance, and educational management. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically through classification, comparison, interpretation, and synthesis of findings from the literature. The results show that the transformation of dayah governance is reflected in the strengthening of authority distribution, planning, organizing, administration, coordination, and evaluation, while charismatic leadership continues to function as a source of legitimacy, values, institutional identity, and strategic direction. This transformation does not occur through the replacement of charismatic leadership by modern management, but through the integration of both elements. The study concludes that an integrative governance model is more relevant to the sustainability of dayah because it enables tradition and professionalism to develop simultaneously. The contribution of this study lies in strengthening the conceptual perspective that charisma and management can function as complementary elements in the institutional transformation of dayah.
